This is the first time that Wikipedia start raise funding in India. Wikipedia is the largest database of tons of information and this runs by a community of users anyone can edit and add content. Wikitravel, wiki how, Wikibooks, WikiTionary, Wikileaks, and mot famous Wikipedia.

Wiki was started in 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. Anyone can write content on site but some of the major pages are locked by admin anti person tries to change information of that page so these pages are locked such as any country information, Religious information, etc.

In India case New Leigutenent Governer of J&K Manoj Sinha's Wiki page was tampered by some community and said: "they support Kashmir freedom." Also, Wikipedia Co-founder Larry Sanger said that website has been "Taken over by Trolls" because some of the well known political personality pages attacked by some of the communities and try to spread wrong information.

But still is a good source of Wikipedia & for Indians Wikipedia is a huge source for Indians. For Wikipedia global 5th highest user base is from India. Wikipedia foundation which is a nonprofitable and charitable organization headquartered in San Francisco, California need to maintain a vast amount of infrastructure need to maintain it and provide a salary to their employees to keep the website running.  

Also, Wikipedia raised funds since (2012-13 $44m),(2014-15 $72m) and in the year (2018-19 $110m) from the USA, Europe & average donation size by globally is $15(1100 rs.) and in India, they appeal to readers from India is Rs. 150. In June assets of Wikipedia is $165m which is enough for a non-profit organization and their operation.
